Vermont | June 27, 2016 – New technology is being installed and tested on Green Mountain Transit buses throughout our Burlington, St. Albans, and Berlin areas. The tablets are the hardware component of the technology. They will supply passengers with real-time information and automated vehicle location (AVL) through a cloud-based GPS program. RouteMatch will also help GMT improve efficiency in operations by providing easily accessible on-time performance data. In our St Albans, Berlin and Stowe areas, the software will improve trip scheduling and optimize vehicle capacity.
Upon the completion of the testing phase, smartphones users will be able to download an app called RouteShout. This app together with the web based portal will answer the frequent question, “Where’s my bus?” These tools will allow riders to view precisely the location of their bus. Launch of RouteMatch will coincide with the opening of GMT’s Downtown Transit Center in late summer of 2016.
“RouteMatch will allow our organization to look beyond day to day operations and aid us in planning ahead to identify trends and improve efficiency. The app and web portal will improve customer satisfaction by providing accurate information instantaneously to our passengers. Our organization is excited to see this project move gain momentum and we look forward to the opportunity to improve our riders’ experience.” Karen Walton, General Manager, GMT.
