Green Mountain Transit to Seek Public Comment on the Resumption Urban Fare Collection and a Draft Fare Structure
Burlington, VT—Green Mountain Transit (GMT) will resume fare collection in 2024 on Chittenden County, Commuter, and LINK Express routes.
Upon resumption, GMT will use a new, modern fare system that will increase non-cash payment options, increase speed of payment on boarding, and limit the daily and monthly costs to individual riders through a capping system. The proposed new fare structure will create a seamless travel experience with standardized fares across both local and commuter services.
“We had hoped we could offer service without fares forever,” said Clayton Clark, General Manager at GMT. “With that not possible, we have proposed standardizing fares across our system to $2.00, while also implementing price controls that will keep individual riders from paying more each month than our previous monthly pass rate of $40.00.”
Half-price fares for riders under 18, over 60, or with a disability will limit the monthly cost to riders in these categories to $20.
For passengers hoping to learn more, GMT will hold a series of public meetings to present the draft fare policy and to collect passenger and public feedback.
