Fare capping occurs over a 30-day period based on the first use of your Ride Ready by GMT app or smart card.
Discounted Fares:
Discounted fare is available to those aged 6 to 17, seniors aged 60 and over, persons with disabilities, and those with Medicare cards. A driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card issued by the Vermont DMV may be required to prove eligibility of age.
Children under 6 may ride buses for free when accompanied by a fare-paying passenger.
Transfers:
GMT no longer offers free transfers because fares will be capped at $4 per day for regular fare riders or $2 for discount fare riders using the Ride Ready by GMT app or smart card.
Purchasing Fares:
You can purchase fares on the Ride Ready by GMT app. Ride Ready by GMT smart card users can add value online on the Ride Ready by GMT e-Fares portal, or add cash to their card at the Downtown Transit Center or administrative office in Burlington.
Passengers can use open payment methods such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and contactless chip-enabled credit and debit cards from Visa, Discover, and Mastercard. At this time, open payment methods will not cap.
Cash will continue to be accepted on-board our vehicles. Passengers need exact fare when boarding as drivers cannot make change. Additionally, we cannot cap fares for cash payments.

Fare capping is a way for passengers to save money on transit without needing to pay upfront for a bus pass. Fare capping allows you to earn your way to unlimited travel, allowing budget flexibility that works for you!
Fare capping is automatically applied after someone using the Ride Ready by GMT app or Ride Ready by GMT smart card has spent a certain amount in a given day($4 regular/$2 discounted) or month/30-day period ($50 regular/$25 discounted).
Passengers are encouraged to download the Ride Ready by GMT app or obtain a smart card. Cash can be loaded onto accounts at the Downtown Transit Center and our administrative office in Burlington.

For passengers paying for children aged 6-17, using a smart card, cash, or contactless open payment (credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay), you would pay for yourself first and then alert the bus driver that you are paying a discount fare for each child. Please note that cash, credit/debit, and open payment methods do not cap.
For passengers paying using the Ride Ready by GMT app, contact a customer service representative at 802-540-2468, and we can update your account to add a youth fare option.
GMT no longer accepts previous fare media on-board vehicles. Passengers can return unused fare media for credit on the new system at the Downtown Transit Center and GMT Administrative Office.
Yes! When you create an account in the app or on the Ride Ready by GMT e-Fares portal, you will automatically be signed up as a regular fare rider. To receive the discounted fare, contact a customer service representative at 802-540-2468, and we can update your account accordingly.
If you plan to obtain a smart card in person at the Downtown Transit Center or our administrative office in Burlington, please let the customer service representative creating your account know you are eligible to receive discounted fare.
Medicaid Bus Pass Program Update:
If you need a ride to a doctor’s appointment, please contact GMT (if you live on a bus line) at 802-540-2468 to schedule your ride.
You can delete your account by submitting an account deletion request via email to info@ridegmt.com. In your correspondence, please provide your full name and the email address associated with your account.
The account deletion procedure may require a period of up to 60 days from the date of receipt of your request. During this time frame, your account and all pertinent data will be scheduled for removal from our systems in compliance with our internal protocols.
Upon successful deletion of your account, you will forfeit access to all data and records associated with your account, including but not limited to usage history, payment history, and any other related information stored within our databases.
Following the deletion of your account, you will be unable to utilize the associated email address to establish a new account. We advise you to utilize an alternative email address for any future communications or transactions.
