MyRide by GMT Microtransit Pilot: Proposed Service Adjustments

Green Mountain Transit (GMT) is evaluating service adjustments to the MyRide by GMT microtransit pilot in response to the conclusion of Mobility & Transportation Innovation (MTI) grant funding from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). This funding has been critical in supporting the pilot program, and its expiration necessitates adjustments to the service area of Montpelier and into Berlin.

As we assess potential changes, our goal remains to balance service efficiency with the transportation needs of our riders. We recognize the impact these adjustments may have on the community and encourage public input on the next iteration of public transit for this service area.

Fiscal Cliff Service Impacts Meeting

GMT hosted a meeting with all urban members and legislators in our urban operation area on Monday, March 25, at 3:00 p.m. The meeting was held via Zoom. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the impact of GMT’s urban fiscal cliff. Without intervention, we are projected to go over our cliff near the beginning of FY26 when we exhaust the last of our COVID relief funds.

Public Meeting to Present the FY24 Budget

The proposed FY24 operating budget aimed to balance the decrease in federal, state, & local funding, the reinstatement of fares, and the increase in operating expenses while providing efficient, accessible service throughout central and northwest Vermont. A portion of this budget for the urban system was dependent upon making the remaining COVID-19 service suspensions permanent reductions. This included the following:

Keeping the Rt. 4 Essex Center & Rt. 10 Williston|Essex Combined
Reduced service after 7 PM on Rt. 1 Williston, Rt 2. Essex Junction, Rt. 6 Shelburne Rd, & Rt. 7 North Ave
Reduction of two evening trips on the Rt 9 Winooski
Reduction in frequency on the Rt. 11 Airport
